The Seasons of My Life: What Failure, Pressure and Starting Again Taught Me
It is tempting to describe a journey as a straight line from struggle to success, but that is rarely how it actually feels while you are living through it. My own experience has moved more like seasons — periods of pressure, periods of starting over, periods that only made sense in hindsight.
Pressure Reveals What You Actually Believe
It is easy to say you believe in an idea when things are going well. Pressure is what actually tests that belief — when resources are tight, when doubt creeps in, when the easier option is to stop. The seasons that applied the most pressure taught me more about my own conviction than any comfortable period ever did.
Starting Again Is Not the Same as Starting From Zero
Every time something has required starting over, it has not truly meant starting from nothing. The lessons, relationships and instincts built earlier came with me, even when the specific outcome did not. Recognising this distinction made starting again feel less like defeat and more like a continuation with adjusted direction.

Some of the hardest periods only made sense months or years later, once enough distance made the pattern visible. At the time, they simply felt difficult and directionless. I have learned to be more patient with seasons that do not immediately explain themselves, trusting that clarity sometimes arrives later than we would like.
The Value of Looking Back Honestly
It would be easier to tell a version of this story where every season led smoothly into the next, all according to plan. The more honest version includes real pressure, real uncertainty, and real moments of starting over. I think that honest version is more useful to anyone going through their own difficult season right now — a reminder that seasons change, even the hard ones.
Some Seasons Are for Building, Others Are for Repairing
I used to treat every season as one for building forward. Over time, I have recognised that some seasons are better spent repairing what already exists — relationships, systems, my own energy — before any further building can be sustainable. Mistaking a repair season for a building one tends to produce burnout rather than progress.

During difficult seasons, gratitude has meant appreciating small, specific things — a single client retained, a single problem solved — rather than the broader picture. Learning to find gratitude at that smaller scale made the harder seasons more bearable than waiting for something large enough to feel grateful about.
