The Johnnywriter Journal: What I Have Learned About People Through Business

Building a business ecosystem across different industries has meant working closely with a wide range of people — customers, staff, partners, and everyone in between. Much of what I have learned along the way has been about people, more than about business strategy itself.

Most People Want to Be Treated Honestly, Not Just Well

Good service or a good product matters, but honesty tends to matter more in the long run. Customers and partners who have been dealt with honestly, even when the news was not what they hoped to hear, have generally stayed more loyal than those who were simply told what they wanted to hear at the time.

People Notice Consistency More Than Grand Gestures

A single impressive interaction rarely builds as much trust as consistent, reliable behaviour over time. This has shaped how every Hisparadise business tries to operate — less focus on occasional impressive moments, more focus on being dependable in the ordinary, repeated interactions that make up most of a relationship with a customer or partner.

People Are Rarely as Confident as They Appear

Working closely with staff, partners and clients has shown me that most people are carrying more uncertainty than their outward confidence suggests. Understanding this has made me more patient in negotiations, more understanding of hesitation, and generally less quick to assume confidence means someone has everything figured out.

Trust Takes Longer to Build Than It Takes to Lose

This is not a new lesson, but building several businesses has made it more real to me than any single piece of advice ever could. Every business under the Hisparadise name has had to earn trust slowly, through consistent behaviour over time — and it would take only a fraction of that time to lose it through carelessness.

People Remember How a Difficult Situation Was Handled More Than the Situation Itself

Mistakes and difficult situations are inevitable in any business. What people tend to remember afterward is not that something went wrong, but how it was handled once it did — whether they were treated with honesty and respect, or left to feel like an inconvenience.

Generosity in Business Tends to Return, Though Rarely Immediately

Small acts of genuine generosity — flexibility with a struggling client, patience with a new staff member still learning — rarely produce an immediate, measurable return. Over time, though, they have consistently shaped the kind of loyalty and goodwill that no amount of clever strategy alone could manufacture.
