If I Could Talk to the Younger Version of Myself, This Is What I Would Say

If I could sit down with the version of myself who was just starting out — before any of the businesses existed, before the name Hisparadise meant anything to anyone but me — here is what I would want him to hear.

You Do Not Need to Have It All Figured Out Before You Start

Waiting for a fully formed plan before taking the first step will cost you more time than simply starting with an imperfect one. Clarity tends to come from doing the work, not from thinking about the work long enough in advance.

Protect Your Time With the Same Discipline You Apply to Money

Early on, I was far more careful with money than I was with time, even though time turned out to be the scarcer resource. Learning to protect it — from distractions, from obligations that did not actually serve where I was going — would have saved years of unnecessary detours.

Not Every Idea Deserves to Become a Business

Enthusiasm for an idea is not the same as evidence that it should be pursued. I would tell my younger self to slow down more often and separate genuine excitement from a real, tested need in the market, before committing real time and resources to something.

Ask for Guidance Sooner Than Feels Comfortable

There is a particular kind of pride that convinces you it is better to figure everything out alone. I would tell my younger self that asking for guidance — from a mentor, a coach, or simply an honest conversation — is not a weakness. It is one of the more efficient ways to shorten the distance between where you are and where you are trying to go.

The Hardest Seasons Will Make Sense Eventually

Finally, I would tell him that the seasons that feel the most confusing and difficult while you are living through them tend to make the most sense in hindsight. That does not make them easier to live through, but it might make them slightly easier to trust.

Your Standards Will Matter More Than Your Speed

I would tell him that moving quickly matters far less than maintaining real standards along the way. A business built quickly but carelessly rarely survives contact with real customers for long. Slower, careful progress tends to hold up better than fast, careless progress, even when it feels less impressive in the moment.

You Will Be Proud of Different Things Than You Expect

I would tell him that the achievements he imagines being proud of are not necessarily the ones that will actually matter most later. Some of the moments I am proudest of now were quiet, unremarkable decisions at the time — choosing honesty over convenience, choosing patience over a shortcut — not the visible milestones I once assumed would define success.
